What Do You Believe? - Spiritual Nugget 100
As the batter steps to the plate in the game of Baseball, he confidently believes he has an entire team inspiring him to make the play that will help his team win the game.
The coach of each team, the umpire, the catcher, the pitcher, and the players who cover each base, are other participants who make the game exciting and ensure the rules are followed. Without faith in the structure of the game and in the spirit of comradery, the confidence of the batter will most assuredly be less than enthusiastic about his possibilities of making a winning hit. Likewise, unbelief in the living, unseen God and the concept of heaven and hell leave our spirits filled only with the actions of a world system that is weak, untrustworthy, and overflowing with uncertainty in the future of human existence. Sadly, that darkness supports and maintains a comfortable presence within the hearts of too many humans. We don’t see God as a winner, but rather an intrusion and a hindrance to personal independence. Unbelief in the spirituality of God is rooted in moral resistance. (Revelation 21:8) Human nature, although inferior to our godly nature, is saturated in opposition to our spirituality given to us by God. The fleeting rewards brought by “free agency,” give our lower nature the green light to prevail. Like a trap that has been set in the wilderness for a wild animal, our minds are locked in refusal to believe in a living, unseen, omnipotent, omnipresent God. We lean to our own intellectual capabilities, as impressive as we think they are. That would include science, logic, psychology, medicine, philosophical experts, politicians, religious leaders, etc. to create what we perceive as a physical, visible, touchable God. This, of course, is impossible since His nature is what makes him God. Like baseball, all sports require a certain number of participants, to achieve a thrilling game. But God is self-contained (I Am That I Am, El Shaddai). He is infinite (Deity), perfect, exalted above change (unchangeable), faithful, absolute, and eternal. Belief in God accepts God as Father (Abba), He loves each person as His child. Belief means acceptance of Him as Creator not just of humankind, but of the earth and the heavenly bodies. Belief means you accept His Son as redeemer and the forgiver of sin; accept Him as the author and finisher of our faith. (Hebrews 12:2) Unbelief has created a false God with a dual personality, always changing, evolving, abstract, someone moving toward self-actualization, a scientific anomaly. Such beliefs are shaped in untruth and only lead to darkness. It is important to remember that there will be situations where it feels like all hell has been laid at your feet. There are no quick roadways to belief in God and faith. It is a one-day-at-a-time walk. There will be days when you lose your focus and forget His promises. Bring those shaky occasions to obedience and focus on God the Father and His Son Jesus--the Rock of Salvation! They are the never-failing objects of confidence and trust. They are the way, the truth, and the life. Belief in the living, unseen God reminds us that He is faithful, even when we are unfaithful! |
